Scenario 1

Relationship with parents becoming strained

Sam's relationship with her mum has broken down:
'I'm a 17-year-old studying at a sixth form college. I've been arguing with my mum all the time, and recently things at home are getting a lot worse. Last night she said I can't stay here anymore.'

What would you advise her to do?

Scenario 2

Sofa surfing with friends

Sam ended up sofa surfing with friends:
'I've been staying with a friend for a few days, but I can't stay there for long. My mum won't take me back.'

What advice would you give now?

Scenario 3

Declining Mental Health

Sam's mental health is really suffering:
'The stress of being homeless is getting too much. I can't sleep, I feel anxious all the time, and going to college feels impossible right now.'

What advice would you give?

Scenario 4

Money Running Out

Sam is working, but it's not easy:
'My benefits payment isn't enough to cover all my basic expenses, so I'm running out of money for food and bus fares. If things get worse, I won't be able to make it to my shifts at work.'

What advice would you give?

Scenario 5

Crisis Point

Sam is running out of places to stay.
'My friend just said they can't let me stay any more. I feel really anxious, I don't know where I'll sleep tonight.'

What advice would you give?

Time's up!

Really stressful, isn’t it?

Sam’s story is just one example of what a young person can face. In 2023/24, 118,000 young people were homeless or at risk of homelessness. Many of them raced against the clock to find help, only to run out of options.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. When we all pull together, we can fix the system so it gives young people real support and a way out of homelessness.

Will you join us to demand the government makes sure that no young person is left out from the support they deserve?

Your voice can help make ending youth homelessness the government’s top priority:
